Objectives
Contents The course will focus on the main technologies used in nuclear medicine with a look on their clinical applications.
Extended Syllabus Decay processes: gamma decay and revelation. Gamma camera. Parameters and methods of planar and tomographic acquisition. SPECT.
Beta decay. PET. PET acquisition parameters. Noise in PET.
The radiopharmacy. Radiopharmaceuticals and their characteristics. The 99mTc generator. Radiopharmaceutical marking. Distribution of the radiopharmaceutical within the body's tissues.
The cyclotron. The tracers for PET.
Diagnostic reference levels in nuclear medicine.
Nuclear medical applications: thyroid scintigraphy with 99mTc pertechnetate; Oncology imaging with 99mTc-MDP; scintigraphy in pulmonary embolism; bone scintigraphy in musculoskeletal infections: in vitro cell labeling with 99mTc-HMPAO.
Hybrid systems.

Teaching Methods The teaching is structured in 10 hours of frontal lessons with multimedia support and/or distant education by online learning.
