Prerequisites:

Successfully sustained the examination of "Materials and design of building Elements " and of "Descriptive geometry".
It is suggested to acquire basic knowledge on three-dimensional digital modeling in advance.

Objectives

The course propose the exigency/performance methodology for the design of the construction systems.
The objectives are aimed at:
- provide an overview of the main construction techniques (knowledge);
- acquire the control tools of the main behaviors of heavy and light construction systems and the functioning of conservative, selective or regenerative energy models (skills);
- configure adequate reading skills, analysis and definition of the project of simple constructions (competence).

The course includes an introduction to the use of BIM methodology (Building Information Modeling) to the Technological Design of Architecture.

Contents

During the "DESIGN OF CONSTRUCTIVE SYSTEMS", the design experience of a building is realized in its entirety and in the definition of its individual constituent parts (systems and components), organized and integrated with each other.
The aim of the course is to give the student the awareness of the relationship that is generated between the characteristics of the activities and the spaces, on the one hand, and the functions of the technical elements on the other, so that the design and design of the solutions fundamental construction and their assembly could take place by controlling the role that materials, products and construction processes play in the architectural project.
The project must take into account the complexity that influences the design-construction process of the buildings, with particular reference to:
- the relationships that are established with the external environment;
- comfort and safety requirements;
- available resources;
- condition the organizational and management forms of the construction process;
- the regulatory instruments in force;
- the production context (size and structure of the company and the sector);
- updating of techniques and technological innovation.
Within these objectives there is a commitment to provide the student with a satisfactory knowledge of the technological systems, the related requirements and their aggregation criteria.
To this end, a specific teaching module on the rules and the current BIM approach to the technological design process will be provided.

Extended Syllabus

The course aims to provide the skills to know:
- the technical characteristics of construction materials, elements
and systems and their evolution
- the rules of the art and the rules for a correct practice of the
build
- the relationships between the use of materials and the processing logic of the themselves, between the logic of the design of the individual parts and their performance
- the role played by materials, elements and construction procedures
in the design, in the construction, in the maintenance and management of buildings
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- KNOW how to read, break up and classify a building system, based on UNI regulation;
- KNOW how to distinguish the principles and rules that relate the building elements to the building system, with reference to their performance;
- KNOW how to distinguish the characteristics of building materials, in
reference to the processes of processing and transformation into building elements;
- KNOW how to identify the typological and morphological connotations of the building elements, basing on the specific characteristics of the materials usable and related processing processes;
- KNOW the cultural motivations and the application fields of the
discipline;
- KNOW the operational practices that can be identified in similarly recurring processes, define the "rule of the art".
- Know the basic requirements for the correct application of the BIM methodology to the technological design of the architecture, with particular reference to the three-dimensional modeling of the technical elements and to the integration of the graphic elements with the technical-information and performance of building elements, at the different scales of representation.

Teaching Methods

The course is organized so as to create a continuous exchange of
theoretical and practical aspects related to the discipline.
To this end, there will be seminars and ex-cathedra lessons that will find
a practical application in the design experimentation developed within
the Course.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The final exam will be based on the verification of the learning of
typical methodologies of architectural technology. The verification will be based on the presentation of the design elaborations accompanied by an oral test.

The course requires mandatory attendance, with a minimum frequency of each student at at least of 70% of the lessons and exercises.
Exercising activities can be developed in groups.
Each group can have a maximum of two members.
The course registration must be done within the first 2 weeks from the beginning of the lessons.
