Objectives
Contents This is a comprehensive course covering protozoan and metazoan parasites which infect humans.
The basic biology of these microorganisms, as well as the clinical manifestations of the diseases they cause, will be discussed. Life cycles, morphological features, host-parasite interactions, methods of transmission and control, and laboratory diagnosis will be covered.
Extended Syllabus 1. Introduction to parasitology: main classes of parasitics.
2. Protozoans: blood parasites; intestinal parasites; Laboratory diagnosis.
3. Metazoans: Platyhelminthes; emerging parasitic diseases; Laboratory diagnosis.
4. Exercises and microscopy.
