The goal is to increase the student knowledge and understanding of the most up-to-date methods and themes of the field. The course aims at achieving this result through lectures as well as discussion of key articles on the topics listed in program.
The aim of the course is to have general organizational principles at the basis of the neurophysiological, neuropathological and pharmacological correlates and their integration with conditions of the nervous system.
The student must know the fundamental principles of neuropathological phenomena, integrating the knowledge transmitted by previous courses (anatomy, physiology, pharmacology).
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the course the student must, have acquired a series of theoretical notions that allow a full understanding of the cellular mechanisms that are at the basis of the functioning of the nervous system and promote plasticity as well as functional recovery.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING CAPABILITY
Students must demonstrate that the acquisition of basic notions brain physiology and pathology, but also the causal links between specific activities and the neurobiological processes that work for the maintenance of homeostasis or response to different stressors.
CAPABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
With the provided information on physiological steady-state and its perturbation, students will be able to predict and describe the response mechanisms and whether such responses are sufficient or not to regain and maintain homeostasis.
AUTONOMY
Students must have acquired knowledge and specific notions to describe and comprehend mechanisms underlying the functions discussed in the lecture series.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Students must demonstrate ownership of a precise and specialized terminology as well familiarity with logical and sequential analysis processing of the cause/effect sequences of neurophysiological, neuropathological and rehabilitative processes.
LEARNING ABILITY
The student will have to develop learning skills useful to understand the main neurophysiological and neuropathological processes for future applicative endeavors.
