Contents The course aims to provide the theoretical basis necessary for the application of the preventive tool to the maintenance of health through the treatment of the following topics:
- EPIDEMIOLOGY OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES
- GENERAL PROFILAXIS OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES
-INFECTIOUS DISEASES
- FOOD HYGIENE
– HEALTH EDUCATION
Extended Syllabus General principles of epidemiology and prevention.
Epidemiology of infectious diseases: Natural history of infectious diseases;
Determinants of infectious diseases: factors related to the host, factors related to the environment;
Transmission mode; Spatio-temporal relationships in the spread of infectious diseases.
General prophylaxis of infectious diseases: indirect prophylaxis: general - intervention sectors;
Direct prophylaxis: aims and measures to be adopted - principles, methods for sterilization, disinfection and disinfestations;
Specific prophylaxis: vaccines, immune sera, immunoglobulins - mechanisms of action, characteristics, preparation, preservation - mandatory and optional vaccinations - chemoprophylaxis.
Health education: Principles - content - role of nursing services in health education.

Teaching Methods The teaching is structured in frontal lessons of 2 hours according to the educational calendar. The lessons foresee a strong interactive component between Teacher and Students.
Attendance is mandatory.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Oral exam: the student must demonstrate his / her preparation by clearly and organized discussing the topics requested by the teacher.
The evaluation will be carried out using marks out of thirty.
