Objectives
Contents The student during the laboratory activity foreseen in the 3rd year, consolidates and perfects the skills acquired in the previous two years, as well as acquires the skills to provide nursing care to the highly complex adult with both acute and chronic problems.
Elements are provided to learn how to organize, perform and evaluate, with appropriate techniques, the care activities, in compliance with the fundamental scientific principles of the profession, to the person in emergency situations, in the critical area, in the neurological and psychiatric environment and in the operating room. Elements are provided for the correct application of diagnostic-therapeutic prescriptions in critical environments.
Extended Syllabus Nursing to the patient in emergency:
- manage the emergency using guidelines, protocols and procedures;
- assist the patient with multiple trauma;
- assist the patient in a state of shock and in cardiac arrest;
- know the techniques of first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, perform external cardiac massage and manual ventilation using appropriate devices;
- know the evaluation of TRIAGE and the color code assignment.
- know the measures of first intervention for the burn patient (management, evaluation and treatment, Scala di Wallace)
- apply bandages, bandages and immobilization systems;
- perform gastric lavage;
- perform anterior nasal tamponade
- know and use the defibrillator;
Nursing to the critical area patient:
- recognize the criticality levels (state of consciousness, respiratory instability, haemodynamic instability,) and prepare assistance plans;
- detect and monitor PVC;
- detect and monitor systemic arterial pressure with invasive method;
- assist the patient in coma by evaluating the grade, according to the various assessment scales;
- know the principals such as: endotracheal tubes, cannulas, laryngoscopes, laryngeal tube, intraosseous;
know the techniques of orotracheal intubation;
- manage the tracheostomy;
- manage the patient with an automatic fan;
- perform oral hygiene in unconscious and / or intubated patients;
- know how to implement the EGA;
- managing drugs;
- assist the patient before death;
- recompose the body and know the medical-legal procedures;
Nursing to the neurological patient:
- recognize the signs and symptoms of neurological patients;
- assist the patient with traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease
- know neurological instrumental and diagnostic techniques (Rachicentesi, EMG, EEG) and collaborate with the doctor in performing diagnostic and therapeutic techniques
- recognize and assist the person with epileptic seizure
Nursing to the psychiatric patient:
- multidimensional reception and assessment in mental health;
- adoption of individual and environmental measures on the person with psychopathological disorders (psychological, pharmacological, environmental and physical containment);
- management of problems concerning the adherence of the psychiatric patient to the treatment and management of specific aspects of drug therapy.
Nursing the patient in the operating room:
- know the positions that the patient must take on the operating table according to the type of operation;
- assist the patient in the pre-anesthesia room;
- know the various types of anesthesia, medical devices and biomedical equipment;
- recognize the surgical instruments and the main principals;
- apply the rules of conduct in the operating room;
- know the equipment for the sterilization of material and surgical instruments;
- know and know how to apply guidelines, protocols, procedures and check lists;
- perform the monitoring of the person during the phases of anesthesia;
- know the rules relating to the registration of drugs and their loading and unloading registers;
- know the procedures for preserving and maintaining the anesthesia material and equipment.

Teaching Methods The laboratory activities are a form of interactive teaching addressed to a small group of students; this activity is supported by a tutor. Experiential learning takes place in the nursing laboratory through the use of dummies and teaching aids prepared for the simulation of emergency-urgency activities.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Verification of learning is included in the "Traineeship" exam.
Minutes will be taken, according to the calendar of appeals, stating the 100% attendance at training sessions.
