Objectives

To understand the structural organization at microscopic and submicroscopic level of the gastrointestinal system and associated glands, correlating it with the function.

Contents

Insights into the structure of the gastro-intestinal tract and associated glands

Extended Syllabus

Structure and ultrastructure of human tissues with particular regard to the gastrointestinal system and related glands, with particular reference to:
esophagus, stomach, small intestine and intestinal villus structure, large intestine, salivary glands, liver and hepatic lobules, exocrine and endocrine pancreas.

Frontal lectures accompanied by digital images directly acquired by the teacher from human histological preparations, through the use of an optical microscope equipped with a digital camera and an image acquisition system.
