FARAWAY, SO CLOSE.
DWELLING BEYOND PANDEMIC / from proximity to social distancing
Pescara Summer School 2020 is transformed into a static and dynamic "open access" teaching device with multiple possibilities for sharing and research. PSS2020 addresses the theme of urban regeneration at the time of the pandemic through a competition dedicated to the search for new ideas capable of reactivating the Borgo Marino of Pescara from an urban point of view.
Pss2020 Faraway, So Close. Living After the Pandemic: DESIGN COMPETITION / BORGO MARINO PROJECT. Regenerate Pescara
Students will be challenged with an operational dimension typical of the architect's work: the architectural competition is interpreted here in its most noble sense: the place devoted to research on the project in relation to current events and its most pressing needs and problems.
Theme
The Borgo Marinaro of Pescara constitutes an urban fragment representative of a condition shared by many contemporary cities: pre-existences with a strong identity value to be enhanced, different morphological-typological relationship of the built compared to the surrounding city, abandoned areas and the absence of quality public spaces.
It therefore requires the definition of the Masterplan for the urban sector on which the competition area falls, in addition to the in-depth study of a specific architectural episode (be it residential and / or receptive).
The issue of public space is of particular relevance in particular for the consequences that the Covid-19 epidemic has produced in the perception and use of the same. With this in mind, here are some of the questions students will have to deal with:
How can we bring together the natural need for socialization and aggregation with the need to apply the rules of social distancing?
Should we densify or rarefy urban space?
Does the residence have to be configured as a micro cosmos (a super building) in which private and public spaces are integrated within it, or fragment into a system of individual housing units?
The Masterplans will be developed in 3 macro groups (of 9 students). The in-depth studies will be developed by 3 sub-groups (by 3 students) and will have as a theme of study: public space, housing, public building.
The macro groups are expected to be awarded 3 prizes and 3 mentions.
The results will be published: online on a dedicated website or as a "window" within the website of the Department of Architecture and its section dedicated to Guidance 2020
