Prerequisites:

Access to the course does not presuppose any institutional prerequisites. In order to optimize the use of the training offered in the course, however, it is necessary to provide manual information of adequate size and good quality on the different phases, on the different currents, and on the most relevant figures in the history of Western philosophy, with particular attention to the modern and contemporary phase of the latter.

Objectives

On the basis of the basic skills already acquired during the three-year degree, the teaching of the discipline aims to provide students with a more solid and mature command of the critical-methodological, historical and theoretical tools that are necessary for the adequate setting and articulation of an in-depth philosophical reflection on human conduct.

Contents

TThe Course is divided into two modules: the Institutional Module (MI) of 3 CFU and the Module of Thematic Deepening (MAT) of 3 CFU.
The course will provide, in the first module, an overall and panoramic reconstruction of the different phases and different figures of the ethical-philosophical and anthropological-philosophical question that has been developed within the tradition, not only philosophical, of the West.
The second module will be divided into two didactic units. The first unit will focus on the philosophical notion of the "human person", examined, in particular, in some salient fundamental lines of its ancient and medieval historical ancestry.
In the second module, an overall reflection on the human condition in general will be proposed, also grasped in its ethical implications. The reflection in question will focus, in particular, on the question of the global sense of man's existence within the world and on the different articulations of the special mystery - a profoundly secular and worldly mystery - that reflection on sense discloses before the eyes of the one who intends to undertake it.

Program:
The module aims to deepen and consolidate the first overall introduction to philosophical-moral issues that has already been provided as part of the three-year degree. First of all, it will provide a brief sketch of the overall disciplinary profile of the discipline called Philosophical Ethics or Moral Philosophy. Secondly, the same module will offer a synthetic overview of the different figures of man and his actions that have been developed gradually in the different eras of the Western tradition, not only philosophical.

Theme:
Human person and questioning on the global meaning of human existence.
Program:
The module is divided into two didactic units.
The first will provide a reconstruction of some exemplary historical events that underlie the speculative maturation of the Western notion of the human person.
In the second, a philosophical reflection on the human condition as a whole will be proposed, in the perspective of a "phenomenology of the mystery". In the first instance, the modalities of human commitment to the meanings emerging from the various cosmic-existential "regions" will be focused. Secondly, the implications of the human question on the global meaning of existence will be examined, with particular attention to the specific form of mystery that the question in question discloses.

Teaching Methods

The teaching methodology will develop into the following series of types:
1) frontal lesson, of a synthetic nature, aimed at reconstructing historical periods, strands of thought, specific themes and problems, and relevant figures of individual thinkers;
2) guided debate in the classroom on the various topics touched upon.
The main teaching activity will be supplemented, if necessary, by study seminars carried out in collaboration with other professorships and / or with the participation of external scholars.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The final exam consists in an oral presentation.
The exam will tend to probe the level of critical metabolization of the methodologies and contents proposed in the course and also, possibly, the ability to reprocess them in a personal key.
The mark will be expressed in thirtieths.
