Objectives

The course aims to provide the student with a thorough knowledge of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Mechanics, with reference to two-dimensional problems. The sure mastery of the subject, obviously prodromal to the application courses, is certainly among the elements characterizing the formation of a Civil Engineer with a Master's Degree.

Analysis of two-dimensional structures: slabs, plates, shells of revolution

Extended Syllabus

Continuum Mechanics
General introductory statements. States of plane deformation and tension: formulations, properties, methods of solution. Problems in polar coordinates.

Structure mechanics
Introductory notes on beams. Plates, flat plates (plates): definitions and consequent formulations; inflex plates: general solution by integrating the equation of state and solutions in closed form for particular cases. Shells: shells of revolution, formulations and solutions for particular cases.
