INTEGRATED COURSE IN SUSTAINABLE BUILDING DESIGN Integrated educational activity
Course Sheet Academic Year of enrolment:
Hours of classroom activity:
Prerequisites:
To take the exam is required to have taken all the examinations of SSD ICAR 21, ICAR/10 provided within the three-year course in Construction Engineering (L23 Class) or eventually other three-year degree of provenience.
Objectives
Contents The Course of Sustainable Building Deisgn, as part of the Master’s Degree in Costruction Engineering (Class LM24), provides the integration of two different teachings: Sustainable Urban Design (ICAR 21, 6 cfu) and Sustainable Architectural Design (ICAR 10, 6 cfu).
The integrated Course has the objective to define the qualify aspects, both methodological and operative, that guide a design (interscalar and interdisciplinary) process finalized to regeneration of fragile urban contexts situated whitin the inner and marginal territories of our Country.
The Course will be reserved attention for the interpretation of the processes of physical and socio-economic degradation of ancient villages associated to the dynamics of depopulation and environmental vulnerability, as well as to the design governance of recent laws and regulations aimed at sustainable energy and environmental regeneration of the building heritage stok.
Cultural and operative references for the course are the well-know guidelines (directives, addresses, laws, programs and plans) at EU and national level in the field of urban regeneration (National Strategy for Inland Areas, Toledo Declaration), Ecological Housing (Audis, Lipsia Declaration), energy efficiency of buildings (SuperBonus, NZEB/Nearly Zero Energy Building) and more generally, in the field of resilience of marginal urban contexts (ANCSA, Cresme, Urban@it ) as well as resilience and adaptivity of buildings systems (Manifest the Future City/States General Green Economy, Agenda 2030, Stockholm Resilience Alliance, UN/ARUP Resilience Framework).

Teaching Methods The integrated course consists of didactic contributions of a theoretical nature (with reference to the key-topics of the ecological and environmental regeneration) and technical-methodological contributions concerning the methods of reading, interpretation and architectural, planning and environmental design. The course provides a integrated design exercise in a urban context chose as case-study. The exercise will be constantly guided by the teacher. Examples of good practices will be provided, as well as graphic references. The results of the exercises will be evaluated for the final exam.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
During the exercises, the topics addressed in the lessons will be studied both in an application and in design sense.
Intermediate tests of exercises will be provided to monitoring the progress of the knowledge, skills and competences acquired by the students.
The individual final exam is oral and the cantidates will be evaluate in thirty
Contacts/More Information The Course takes place in the second semester
Final exam consisting in the exposition and discussion of the works produced in the course, as well as in the exposition and argumentation of the disciplinary contents taken from the lessons and the bibliography
