Although no prerequisites are required, knowledge of the basic concepts of business administration.

Objectives

The course contributes to the main objective of the master degree in “Economics and Management” of providing a solid background on the main corporate functions. Specifically, the course contributes to build up a rigorous background in corporate finance with particular focus on investment and financing decisions and the relationship between financial risk and return.

RISULTATI DELL’APPRENDIMENTO ATTESI
At the end of the course students will have a solid background in corporate finance and in particular on investment and financing decisions and on financial risk and returns. The aim is to contribute to the formation of a professional figure (envisaged in the CdS) of financial analyst.
The specific objectives of the Corporate finance course relates to:
CONOSCENZE E CAPACITA' DI COMPRENSIONE
At the end of the course students should:
-distinguish the main methods useful to select investments;
- distinguish the main equity and dept financial instruments;
- identify a proper structure of capital;
- to distinguish risk and return of assets and of a portfolio of assets;
- identify the different figures of market efficiency;
- distinguish innovative financial instruments, their risk and returns.

CONOSCENZA E CAPACITA’ DI COMPRENSIONE APPLICATE

At the end of the course students should:
- Apply knowledge to investment and financing case studies;
- Choose the best investment among a plurality of investment options;
- Calculate risk and return of a portfolio of investments.

• Critically evaluate investment and financing projects;
• critically evaluate risk and return of a portfolio of assets

At the end of the course students should:
• express with technical and appropriate language analytical considerations on relevant aspects concerning corporate finance, also doing interdisciplinary linkage.

• perform individual and join research on specific sustainability topics;
• compare the knowledge acquired with general orientation on corporate finance

Conventional

Teaching Methods

The course adopt several different teaching methods:
- lectures;
- reading and comments of newspapers, scientific articles, and reports developed by high standing international organizations;
- comments of short videos and interview;
- seminars by experts;
- national and international case study analyses;
- project works

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The evaluation of the level of student
learning will be carried out by a written exam
(vote in thirtieths). It aims at evaluating on
one hand the communicative skills, the
technical language and the expository clarity,
on the other the knowledge and
competences covered by the formative
objectives to be assessed.

At the request of the students, written exams
can be carried out in itinere according to
“L’Ascolto” model. In this case, each test will
consist of 30 questions (multiple choice),
including some exercises, aimed at verifying
the understanding of the theoretical and
application topics covered in the course. If
each test will be passed (with a score of at
least 18/30), the students can also take the
oral exam to improve her/his grade.

Finally, it will be possible to organize working groups that, at the end of the course, will present a case study drawn from the banking/financial landscape. Following the assessment of project work, a maximum score of 3/30 can be assigned.
