Basic knowledge of biology, physiology and chemistry.
Objectives Contents Learning of the principles of pharmacokinetics (drug absorption, distribution, biotransformation and elimination) and of pharmacodynamics (drug-target interactions). Inter-individual and intra-individual variability of the pharmacological response. Classification of adverse drug reactions. Learning the mechanism of action of the main classes of drugs subject to therapeutic monitoring.
Extended Syllabus Pre-clinical and clinical drug development. Pharmacovigilance. Introduction to general pharmacology: routes of drug administration, principles of pharmacokinetics (absorption, distribution, biotransformation and elimination of the drug); pharmacodynamics (membrane and intracellular receptors; characteristics of drug-receptor interaction; agonists and antagonists; dose-response relationship; therapeutic index). Pharmacogenomics, inter-individual and intra-individual variability factors in drug response.
