The course will focus on the concept of truth and lies in social relations from a philosophical perspective.
The lectures will be divided into two modules:
First module: A brief history of lying
Do fables and myths lie? Are there necessary or inevitable lies? Is lying a structural part of human culture? Is lying always immoral? Is there a right to tell a falsehood? The course aims to reconstruct a brief history of lying by taking up and analysing the reflections that philosophers and philosophers have developed over the last three centuries, with particular regard to the positions of Immanuel Kant, Friedrich Nietzsche, Sigmund Freud and Hannah Arendt.
Second Module: The Truth of Discourses.
What are truth discourses? Is it possible to consider the truthfulness of philosophical, scientific, etc. statements? In this module the question of truth in discourse will be addressed on the basis of Foucault's reflections and more recent reflections on truth in the sciences. Texts by Foucault, Stengers, Oreskes.
