INTEGRATED COURSE IN SPACE STRUCTURES AND COMPUTATIONAL MECHANICS Integrated educational activity
Course Sheet Academic Year of enrolment:
Hours of classroom activity:
Objectives
Contents The new performance standards are of complex application for designers, as they require the abandonment of simple calculation methodologies for more sophisticated techniques. For this reason, the use of computers appears to be an essential necessity nowadays. It is therefore evident the importance of knowing the basics of Finite Elements, to be aware of the errors and simplifications that are introduced in the calculation.
Extended Syllabus Linear Finite Element Analysis - basic concepts:
to. The importance of knowing the theory: example.
b. The concept of finite element, how the continuum is discretized, approximations.
c. Internal and external constraints (Constraints and Restraints).
d. Formulation of the Elements
And. Convergence to the exact solution
f. Integration points
g. Interpolation
h. Links between different types of elements
the. Concentrated springs
j. Modeling of the soil-structure interaction
k. Errors arising from the elements
L. Examples of application to a building in reinforced concrete

Teaching Methods The teaching activity includes a theoretical part (with lectures and exercises carried out by the teacher in the classroom) and an applicative part (with assignment of simple design themes that will be developed by the student under the supervision of the teacher, according to weekly review cycles)
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The exam consists in the discussion of the individual papers relating to the assigned exercises and in a written and oral theoretical test on the topics developed during the course.
