Knowledge of the history of modern and contemporary philosophy
Objectives
Contents The course will focus on Hegel's Phenomenology of Spirit and the interpretation of Kojève and Hyppolite.
Extended Syllabus The Hegelian phenomenology of spirit has been a key text throughout the history of modern and contemporary philosophy. In it, numerous topics converge that would later be taken up in various ways, from the struggle for recognition to unhappy consciousness, from observational reason to absolute spirit. In this text, the German philosopher establishes concepts that will become essential for the subsequent debate. In particular, the French reading and interpretation will open up the Hegelian text to new interpretations. Through the anthropologising (Kojève) and ontologising reading (Hyppolite), an attempt will be made to show how the texts of tradition can be fruitful for the envelop new categories and concepts.
