The Degree Course in Orthoptics and Assistance in Ophthalmology is divided into 3 years.The ophthalmologist orthoptist, according to the law of 10 August 2000, n. 251, is the health worker who individually or in a multidisciplinary team treats the motor and sensory disorders of vision; performs instrumental-ophthalmological semeiology techniques; carries out assistance activities in the ophthalmological operating room and deals with the rehabilitation of low vision. He is responsible for the organization, planning and quality of the professional acts carried out in the context of his activities.Graduates in Orthoptics and Ophthalmological Assistance carry out their professional activity in structures of the National and Regional Health Service; in private facilities accredited and affiliated with the NHS; in clinics-structures-rehabilitation and low vision centers, in Healthcare Residences; at home by patients; in medical clinics and / or multi-specialist clinics, in individual or associated professional studies; at associations and companies with welfare purposes; in public or private prevention services; in IRCCS.Graduates in Orthoptics and Assistance in Ophthalmology are provided with an adequate preparation in the basic disciplines (propaedeutic sciences, biomedical sciences, first aid), such as to enable them to better understand the most important elements that underlie anatomy, physiology and pathology of the human body as well as the main elements of psychology and pedagogy.The Degree Course determines the specific educational path of the orthoptists and assistants in ophthalmology through the appropriate selection of the disciplinary areas of the characterizing training activities.In particular, the areas identified are: Orthopedic and ophthalmology sciences, Human and psycho-pedagogical sciences, Medical and surgical sciences, Prevention of health services, Interdisciplinary and clinical sciences, Health management, Interdisciplinary sciences.The attainment of professional skills is achieved through theoretical and practical training that also includes the acquisition of behavioral skills and is achieved in the specific work context of the profile, so as to ensure, at the end of the training course, full mastery of all the necessary skills and their immediate usability in the workplace. Of particular importance, as an integral and qualifying part of professional training, is the practical training and clinical internship, carried out with the supervision and guidance of specially assigned professional tutors, coordinated by a teacher belonging to the highest level of training required by the professional profile and corresponding to the standards defined at the European level where they exist
