The deep territorial transformations of the economy, from the local to the global scale, have produced new economic scenarios and the emerging of new productive areas within a growing interdependence between the various regions of the world. These dynamics have to be read and understood in the view of environmental, economic, political, cultural and social determinants, by encouraging the discussion about the meaning of the current trends and their future evolving and by deepening the dimension of the new geography of the development through critical contributions. These goals help to understand in a critical and way the dynamics of the economy and of the productive sectors.
In particular, the student will be able to develop the following skills: explain what is the economic value of the territory, the relationship between external economies, infrastructures and urban incomes, the functioning of a complex system, the geo-system and the main causes of the ecological issue; understand the geographical space and the environment in which we live, by taking into account the political, managerial, social, cultural and ecological factors who are at the basis of the economic changes; classify and analyze the relationships between industrial activities and the territory, highlight the co-existence of different enterprises establishments, introduce the concept of enterprises' networks and global supply chains; deepen the role and thematics related to transportation and telecommunications in the current economic world; analize tourism spaces and facing critically the subject of urban creativity, depending on the conditions of urban contexts; understand how the development formerly derives by the relation between local players, territorial resources and the "mobile" resources who circulate within the global networks.
These skills will make the student to be able to debate in a critical way some economic issues which are related to the localization choices of the productive sectors, the competitiveness factors and they will permit him/her to analyze regional, national and international case studies, by expressing a personal point of view about the strengths and weaknesses of the territory, by identifying the issues and by suggesting suitable solutions.
