Successfully sustained the examination of "Elements of Construction Technology"
Objectives
Contents The course aims to develop a particular attention to the study of the physical elements that constitute the constructive systems, not only for inform and document the students on the tools that the architect must know to operate, but also to give them the capacity to extend their interventions to the transformation of these tools.
The meaning of the term "tools" is used both from a technical point of view (design, construction materials, construction elements, structures, climate, systems, etc.) both conceptual (methodologies, programs, criteria for verification of the design process).
Extended Syllabus The course aims to provide the skills for:
* know the technical characteristics of building materials,construction elements and systems and their evolution, (the reasons for how it is done);
* know the rules of art and the rules for a correct practice of building,
* recognize the relationships of consistency and clarity between use of materials and their building process, between the design of the individual pieces and their performance, between the designed spaces and the expectating functions.
* checking the role played by materials, elements and construction processes in the design, construction, maintenance and management of a building.
The student, through the design experimentation, will be led to acquire the ability to govern the system of relationships between materials, construction processes and functional, figurative and environmental aspects, activating:
* the critical tools suitable for setting up and running a design program in terms of feasibility,
* the methodological tools for a correct construction of the sequence of requirements that specify the program itself in the presence of certain constraints,
* the operational tools for the definition of design solutions congruent to the program and aimed at enhancing the solicitations coming from the technology.
At the end of the course the student must be able to:
* read, break down and classify a building system, according to the UNI legislation;
* to distinguish the principles and the rules that relate the constructive elements to the building system, with reference to their performances;
* to distinguish the characteristics of the building materials, with reference to the processing and transformation processes in construction elements;
* identify the typological and morphological connotations of the construction elements according to the specific characteristics of the materials that can be used and the relative manufactoring processes;
* know the cultural motivations and application areas of the discipline;
* know the methodological tools to respond appropriately to the needs of building through the management of physical, functional and figurative aspects and of the relationships between materials, executive techniques and manufacturing processes;
* know the operational practices that define the "rule of art".

Teaching Methods The course is organized in such a way as to create a continuous exchange between theoretical and practical aspects related to the discipline.
To this end cycles of ex cathedra lessons are foreseen, which will be applied in the practical experimentations activated within the Integrated Course of of Architectural Composition.
The final exam will be rigorously unique and contemporary for both Integrated Course; it may be preceded by any intermediate and partial checks according to the teaching organization of each course.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The final exam will be based on the verification of the learning of designing methods of the Architectural Technology.
It will consist in the presentation and the preparation of the synthesis materials of the design activity carried out within the Integrated Course, and will have the purpose to show the integration of the acquired knowledge. It will be the students' responsibility to make the relations between the two disciplinary fields clear.
Contacts/More Information Mandatory participation is required, not necessarily with constant frequency.
It is advisable to formalize the enrollment to the course within the first weeks of lessons.
