Logical and reasoning skills; knowledge of the main developmental theories; knowledge of the main methods in developmental psychology; knowledge of experimental methodology; comprehension of English written research papers.
Objectives Contents Human social sensitivity at birth; early reference understanding; gestural an first language acquisition; early social understanding; impaired and at risk conditions for shared attention; brain-behaviour-environment interactions in early cognitive development.
Extended Syllabus Early social and communicative abilities in typical and atypical conditions are presented in the light of the social understanding development. Human infants are viewed as psychobiological and developing beings. Main topics are the following: Social bond formation: innate tendencies, neurological basis, environmental affordances. Dyadic interactions: temporal contingency, expressive exchanges; interpersonal co-regulation. Triadic interactions: shared attention, communicative gestures, social referencing. Intentional communication: deictic and representational gestures, pointing development. Early language: shared references, vocal and verbal schemes, first words.
