Objectives
Contents The industry is under investigation both by industrial economists, but also by the scholars in marketing, accounting, business strategy, experts in the firld of competition, and so on. In effect, the industry analysis is the prerequisite to further initiatives of analysis about firms and markets, such as a marketing plan, a business case-study, an antitrust inquiry. Industry analyses are often descriptive and heterogeneous, and do not refer to a consolidated methodology.
The tools (statistical and non-statistical) used in the methodology of the industry analysis derive from the contribution of the industrial economists and business scholars, and refer to the structure-conduct-performance (SCP). The course aims at:
- providing the theorethical tools and notions needed to investigate industries, especially the thorethical SCP paradigm.
- explaining the (statistical and non-statistical) tools employed in the methodologies for the study of the industries, both from the demand and supply side.
