Objectives
Contents The course aims to provide a picture of the history of the Italian language, paying particular attention to the evolution of Italian linguistic structures starting from the first vulgar documents up to the contemporary and dealing the main arguments of the theoretical debate on the question of language. In the in-depth module will be examined texts produced between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in central Italy (median linguistic area).
Extended Syllabus Arguments dealt with in the lessons: the phonological system of Italian; the transition from Latin to Italian; the phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical evolution of Italian throughout the centuries; the tools of the discipline (grammars, vocabularies, repertoires); the question of language over the centuries; the external linguistic history of Italian from Origins to today; the linguistic features of language in central Italy between the Origins and the XVI century.

Teaching Methods 63 hours, subdivided into teacher up front lessons, exercises and seminars.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Oral exam with marks out of 30, aimed at verifying the ability to expose the arguments presented during the course with clarity and autonomy of judgment. The grading scale goes from 1 to 30 with honours (cum laude): 1-17 fail, 18-21 sufficient, 22-24 fair, 25-27 good, 28-29 very good, 30-30 with honours (cum laude) excellent.
