Although no prerequisites are required, knowledge of the basic concepts of business administration.

Objectives

The course pursues the general objective of the core curriculum to provide knowledge and skills on the main firm functions In particular, the course aims to analyze the main decisions of corporate finance function. A specific attention is given to the choice of investment, financing and to the risk-return relationship.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY
At the end of the course students will be able to know the main methods of investment/financing choice and they will have the need skills to work in a corporate finance function both of financial and non-financial institutions.
To contribute to the training of professional figures envisaged in the core management, students will cover roles that requires knowledge on how to choose financing and investments in national and international contexts.
Students will also be able to address financial decision in contexts characterized by an increasingly complexity.
The course aims at transmitting the knowledge/skills necessary to:
- Identify the main tasks of corporate finance function;
-Distinguish the main methods of investments evaluation
-Select preferable investments;
- Distinguish the main financing methods;
-Select preferable financing methods;
- understand the relationship risk-return and the related importance for financing and investment chooses.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITIES
- to distinguish the main methods useful to select investments;
- to distinguish the main financial instruments;
- to distinguish the role of risk/return on investment and financing decisions.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT:
- to apply the learned knowledge to real cases and to identify the most appropriate solutions to concrete problems concerning corporate finance

-to take investment decisions according to financial risk-return of alternative investments;

- to express with technical language analytical and synthetic considerations on the fundamental aspects of the course also through interdisciplinary links.

Contents

The course aims at analyzing the main issues of corporate finance through an international lens. Specifically, contents of the course include:

-Role of corporate finance
- evaluation of investments (net present value, recovery time, internal rate of return)
- risk and return
- portfolio theory
- risk and cost of capital
- evaluation of investments: corporate bonds and stocks, capital increase, innovative financing instruments

Methods of Provision

Conventional

Teaching Methods

Lessons will be carried out using the following teaching methods:
- lectures;
- reading of financial newspaper;
- case studies;
- Seminars held by bank operators.
The attendance is highly recommended.

Evaluation methods

Verification of learning:

The evaluation of the level of student
learning will be carried out by an written exam
(vote in thirtieths). It aims at evaluating on
one hand the communicative skills, the
technical language and the expository clarity,
on the other the knowledge and
competences covered by the formative
objectives to be assessed.

At the request of the students, written exams
can be carried out in itinere. In this case, each test will consist of 10 questions (multiple choice) and some exercises, aimed at verifying the understanding of the theoretical and application topics covered in the course. If each test will be passed (with a score of at
least 18/30), the students can also take the
oral exam to improve her/his grade.

Finally, it will be possible to organize working groups that, at the end of the course, will present a case study drawn from the corporate finance landscape. Following the assessment of the ability to learn, a maximum score of 3/30 can be assigned.
