Objectives

The student has to learn the etiology, pathogenesis, and primary clinical presentations as part of ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, and cardiac arrhythmias; moreover, the student has to learn general principles, indications, and practical application of the main techniques of cardiological imaging.

Extended Syllabus

• Pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system.
• Ischemic heart disease: cardiovascular risk factors, atherosclerosis, chronic ischemic heart disease, and acute coronary syndromes; complications of myocardial infarction.
• Acquired valvular heart diseases: aortic stenosis, aortic regurgitation, mitral stenosis, mitral regurgitation.
• Arrhythmias: etiology, pathogenesis, classification, ECG presentation. Cardiac arrest.
• Main techniques of cardiological imaging: hints of echocardiography, hemodynamics and coronary angiography, computed tomography coronary angiography, and cardiac magnetic resonance.
