Objectives
Contents The course aims to provide students with theoretical models and basic operational tools for the study of structural systems made up of beams, examining the conditions of equilibrium, congruence, resistance and stability.
Extended Syllabus The kinematics and statics of systems of plane rigid bodies. Definition of plane constraints. Isostatic, hyperstatic, labile, degenerate structures. Graphic study of the kinematics of beam systems. The principle of virtual works. The calculation of the internal and external support reactions and the stress parameters in a section, with the principle of virtual works
Area geometry: static moment, center of gravity, moment of inertia, radius of inertia, mixed moment of inertia, Huygens theorem. Main axes of inertia, central ellipse of inertia
The characteristics of the stress for isostatic structures: bending moment, shear stress, normal stress, twisting moment. Indefinite equilibrium equations for rectilinear plane beams. Plot of the characteristic stress diagrams. Elementary cases of beams. Three-hinged arches. Resolution of hyperstatic structures by means of congruence equations.
Use of an automatic calculation code for the study of isostatic and hyperstatic structures
