Extended Syllabus In the Sustainability and Energy curriculum of the construction engineering master's course (Class LM24), the teaching of Technologies and Management of the Building Process (6 CFU ICAR / 10) it is the only course belonging to the disciplinary sector of Technical Architecture. It is part of the integrated course of MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY (6 CFU ICAR / 10 Technologies and management of the building process + 6 CFU ING-IND22 Building Materials For Sustainability).
The disciplinary contents refer to the analysis of building bodies and the optimal compliance of the components according to the essential requirements and environmental sustainability. During the course, various building technologies are discussed, contemplating both traditional and innovative techniques.
The contents covered in the course are listed below:
a) Basic concepts
- Conduction, convection and radiation and thermal comfort (The 6 factors that influence thermal comfort and bioclimatic diagrams, active and passive systems) (2 hours);
- Opaque envelope technologies (basic horizontal envelop, vertical envelop, roof) (2 hours);
b) Life cycle assessment in the building context (5 hours);
c) Technological aspects related to the thermal protection of the building (Reflection, Resistance, Capacity) (2 hours);
d) Technological aspects of the building envelopes to guarantee Natural Lighting (Float glass, solar control, electrochromic, gas chromic, liquid crystals and shielding) (2 hours);
e) Technological aspects of the building envelopes to ensure Natural Ventilation (2 hours);
f) Technological aspects of prefabrication and wooden constructions (5 hours);
g) Green building rating system (5 hours);
h) Innovative technologies such as digital manufacturing and additive manufacturing applied to the building construction sector (15 hours);
i) Practical applications with exercises and group projects (Application of the ITACA protocol to a case study) (20 hours ).

Other recommended readings for in-depth thematic studies and specific topics will be indicated during the exercise activities. The additional teaching materials will be delivered directly to those enrolled in the course.
Teaching Methods The methods of carrying out the lessons and teaching support activities include:
-Frontal didactic lessons;
-Theoretical / practical exercises and projects in groups and / or individuals;
-Thematic insights coordinated with the integrated course of Building Materials For Sustainability;
-Reviews and checks of exercises and projects.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
By means of exercises, the theoretical concepts will be applied to the building component design. The learning progress of the students will be monitored through group and/or individual projects.
The final exam will consist of an individual test to assess the final knowledge and disciplinary skills of the students. In addition, the exercises and the projects carried out will be discussed and presented by the students. Consequently, the ability of every student in applying the theoretical concepts in the building technological design of will be assessed.
The preparation of the students will be assessed in a range from 0 to 30.
Contacts/More Information - Semester in which the course is delivered: Second.
- Registration for the course is mandatory.
