Objectives
Contents The teaching of Scientific English for the first year of the Bachelor’s Degree in NURSING (QUALIFYING FOR THE HEALTHCARE PROFESSION OF NURSING) focuses on the development of language skills, with particular attention to listening and reading comprehension and to oral production, in line with the A2/B1 descriptors of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). To this end, listening and reading activities, oral interaction and exercises aimed to develop and consolidate general grammatical and lexical competences (General English) will be proposed. At the same time, the teaching will provide students with basic specialised skills (ESP - English for Special Purposes) related to some of the main areas of nursing (Nursing English), also through oral and written comprehension activities. A large part of the course will be devoted to the linguistic study of nursing situations and of the hospital system as specialised textual genres.
