To the whole understanding of the disciplines is required: knowledge of biology, histology, anatomy, biochemistry, physiology. To have passed the exam of Physiological and Biomedical Sciences.
Objectives
Contents To provide knowledge of the main damage response mechanisms and of the genes that play a role in the neoplastic transformation mechanism.
Extended Syllabus Oncology: concepts of hyperplasia, hypertrophy, metaplasia, dysplasia, anaplasia, neoplasia. Benign and malignant tumors. Histogenetic classification of benign and malignant human tumors. Metastases. The carcinogenesis process. Carcinogenesis concepts from chemical, physical and viral agents. Stages of carcinogenesis: initiation, promotion and progression. Oncogenes and tumor suppressors and their role in tumors.

-Teaching material provided by the teacher with express recommendation to the students to use it only as an aid/guide to the preparation of the exam. It is recalled, in fact, that the use of the recommended General Pathology books (exclusive choice of the student) is essential for a correct, useful and easier preparation of the subject. Students are required to perform all the topics indicated in the program even if not included in the teaching material. Finally, students are warned against the use of photocopies of educational material (presumed printouts of the lessons) ABUSIVELY sold at the copy shops.
Teaching Methods The course will be held through interactive lectures with the aid of iconographic material in Power Point files.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The assessment of the learning is based on a multiple choice written test and an oral one.
The publicity of the exams is assured and the communication of the final result of the test and its evaluation are published.
