Objectives
Contents This advanced course will focus on basic cognitive functions such as perception, attention, memory, language, and emotion.
Extended Syllabus The definition of cognition: the origins of cognitive psychology;
Attention: definition, attention as an sensorial input filter, automatic and controlled processes;
Perception: Pattern recognition and problems of perception, Gestalt principles, top-down elaboration, face recognition
Memory: short-term memory;serial position effects, definition and structure of working memory, phenomena linked to WM; Long-term Memory: definition and characteristics, encoding specificity, autobiographical memory;
Language and cognitive elaboration: understanding spoken language, identify word meaning, case grammar, from words to sentences, reading.

Teaching Methods The lectures make use of slides and concern theoretical aspects of the discipline integrated by practical examples of the main experimental paradigms.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The exam is written with multiple choice questions (4 options). Exam time is 30 min. Students can complete the exam with an oral integration, which can be also required by the professor.
