Objectives
Contents The lessons of this course aim at providing the student with a basic knowledge of the molecular mechanisms underlying development and progression of gynecological cancers.
Specific notions will be provided about the molecular mechanisms underlying etiology and pathogenesis of cevical and ovarian cancers, designing a path of the translational research, from basic science discoveries to clinical applications in diagnosis and therapy.
Extended Syllabus Carcinogenesis: general key concepts. Molecular alterations of the key genes involved in the pathogenetic processes of cancerogenesis. Mechanisms involved in the invasion and metastasis: molecular signaling, tumor-stroma interactions, cancer stem cells
Pathology of Gynecological Cancer
- Cervical Tumors
- Ovarian Tumors
Staging, incidence, prognosis.
Role of HPV in the development of the cervical cancer
Biomarkers of ovarian cancer: role of the protein Trop-2 in the regulation of key processes of carcinogenesis
Recommended Bibliography Traditional lessons, integrated with “journal club” sessions for discussion of the most important scientific papers in this field.
