DRAWING AND REPRESENTATION 1 Course Sheet Academic Year of enrolment:
Professor and Collaborators:
Hours of classroom activity:
Prerequisites:
Elementary knowledge of the three geometric models. Drawing cognition. Familiarity with technical computer use and notions of automatic drawing.
Objectives
Contents The Drawing and Representation Course (12 cfu), pertaining to SSD ICAR 17, is intended to ground and support the disciplines in which representation for the built environment and for the project are the means of communication, which is why it is placed among the first-year training disciplines.
The course consists essentially of two parts in two cycles:
Descriptive Geometry, Architectural Survey.
The first module of 60 hours will be taught by Prof. Pasquale Tunzi in the first cycle, the second module of 60 hours by Prof. Caterina Palestini in the second cycle.
The Drawing and Representation 1 (6 cfu) course addresses, with lectures and exercises, the issues of Descriptive Geometry and Technical Representation with the following main topics:
1) Standards for technical drawing
2) Dimensional planes method
3) Double Orthogonal Projections
4) Assonometry
5) Perspective
6) Shadows
Extended Syllabus The Drawing and Representation 1 course consists of theoretical lectures and exercises in Descriptive Geometry, an aid to technical representation, and similar theoretical communications and operational exercises in the Drawing and Representation 2 course (Architectural Surveying). The objective of the Course is to provide students with the appropriate tools for an appropriate representation of the existing and what can be devised, through the aid of the three main geometric models that result, by convention, those applied in the representation of the built and the environment. The practical exercises to be developed in the classroom, will have a counterpart, at home, that the students will have to carry out and deliver periodically to the teacher. They will be accompanied by three final tables, in relation to the three geometric models, which will have as subject a building of Contemporary Architecture of the last forty years agreed upon with the lecturer.
The main theoretical topics of the Descriptive Geometry classes are: double orthogonal projections; axonometries; perspectives; and shadows.
The enunciation of operational prescriptions, codes and standards to be applied to existing and project drawing will also be examined, in order to make the student understand the value of technical representation, both traditional, performed by hand, and computer-based, through the use of reduction scales.

During the course of the Descriptive Geometry part, students will be asked individually, at three different times of the cycle, to test their theoretical acquisitions. To better cope with the different parts of the Course, students are advised to equip themselves with materials and tools to carry out the graphic elaborations that will be collected in a folder. All materials produced should be reviewed periodically, so as to improve them and enable the student to become more aware of representative methods, and will be handed in at the final interview.

Teaching Methods Lectures will be held with the aid of slides, and exercises that students will develop individually with the support of traditional drawing and computer tools. The materials produced (sketches, notes, photographs, drawings, modeling, technical tables, etc.) will, together with those produced at home, constitute examination materials. It will then be essential to submit them for periodic review by the lecturer to be finally handed in for the exam in the dual format (paper and digital). Added to the lectures is the time to be spent on the elaboration of three geometric tables, the subject of which, to be agreed with the lecturer, is generally a contemporary Architecture building with multiple volumes.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
In the Descriptive Geometry module, three tests necessary to understand the level of learning of the theoretical issues. In addition, dates will be set for the delivery of three tables related to the three models of Geometry applied to a contemporary Architecture building designed by a master of Architecture in the last 40 years.
Weekly meetings are also scheduled to review the products and clear doubts on theoretical issues. For any contact, in addition to the lecturer's email, there is the website: https://elearning.unich.it/course/view.php?id=142 .
At the conclusion of the lectures, dates will be set to take the Descriptive Geometry interview. This interview will consist of testing theoretical knowledge related to the discipline. The grade will be averaged with the grade obtained from the interview in Drawing and Representation 2 (Prof. Caterina Palestini).
Contacts/More Information Learners should equip themselves with all the materials and tools needed to follow the lectures and carry out the exercises.
