Teaching Methods The course is divided into different teaching modules: 1) Tools, 2) Lessons, 3) Conferences, 4) Workshops.
Each module has specific training objectives and learning methodologies aimed at enabling the student to acquire: knowledge of the origins of modern urban planning; mastery of the tools of the urban planning discipline; ability to critically and analytically elaborate urban and territorial phenomena.
1) The Tools module provides some basic tools for urban planning practice: cartographic readings; data search, selection of sources, representation methods; digital survey and geolocation techniques and methods; techniques and methodologies for the production of multimedia materials; use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The Tools are carried out through webinars and involve the students carrying out practical activities.
2) The Lessons module consists of a cycle of lessons on the origins of urban planning and the urban planning instruments in force in Italy. The lessons are included in the online platform and can be consulted in streaming mode.
3) The Conference module consists of a live remote conference held by an external expert invited to delve deeper into some specific aspects of the course. At the end of the conference, ample space is dedicated to student questions on the topics covered.
4) The Workshop module consists of a practical exercise carried out in class by students assisted by tutors. The exercise aims to put into practice the notions that are being learned in the course, by having students try their hand at developing a book on the constituent elements of urban fabrics.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The final evaluation of the Urban Planning 1 course consists of the weighted average of the assessments acquired by the students during the different teaching modules measured inthe followingway: the learning of the lessons will be evaluated by specific multiple-choice and open-ended tests; in the Workshop module a project paper will be produced that will be evaluated. The evaluation will then take into account the overall commitment of the students, their learning progression, active participation in the ciclor lectures and conferences (questions, interventions, etc.).
Contacts/More Information The course offers students a dedicated section of the professor's website: www.paolofusero.it/didattica . The section contains an articulated set of online services such as the bulletin board (where all communications with students take place), the email box, the programs, the calendar of activities, reservations, information, test evaluations, etc. From the site it is also possible to download the teaching material of all the ex cathedra lessons and design exercises. The course also uses a facebook group used for quick exchanges of information between the teacher, tutors and students.
