Objectives
Contents The course focuses on the study of finance and its evolution, starting from the 11th century up to the present day. A first part focuses on the finance of public institutions, to which is added that of private individual. We start from the birth of financial systems, we follow their evolution over time and in geographical space, we analyze the causes and reasons for the financial crises that have occurred over the centuries, up to the study of today's national cases.
Extended Syllabus Part I:
- birth of finance and financialization of the economy;
- from the Balance Sheet to the Tax State (XI-XV centuries);
- the formation of the fiscal military State (XVI-XVIII centuries);
-from the State minimum to the welfare state (XIX-XX centuries).
Part II:
- business and finance in pre-industrial Europe;
- joint-stock company and English capitalization;
- managerial capitalism and the capital market;
- financial systems geared to intermediaries: banks and corporate governance;
- corporate finance and banking system in Italy
Part III:
- the financializing' process of the economy;
- financial crises in history,
- the subprime mortgage crisis

Teaching Methods The course includes 72 hours of teaching. The lectures will be held by the teacher in form of frontal classes, this provide a strong interactive component between teacher and students. Attendance is optional, but recommended.in the event of a health emergency, the Teams platform for distance learning will be activated during lessons for students who will not be present in the classroom.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Final examination: Oral
Modalities for learning verification: learning verification is based on an oral examination, through questions aimed at assessing students' knowledge of the teaching material, independence and communication skills.
a) Failure to pass the exam: insufficient preparation.
b) From 18 to 21: sufficient preparation in relation to learning the main fundamentals of the history of finance and the historical dynamics of financial systems. Sufficient ability to identify the factors underlying financial crises and the role of the political corrector. Sufficient autonomy of critical judgment and ability to use the economic lexicon.
c) From 22 to 24: fully sufficient preparation in relation to learning the main fundamentals of the history of finance and the historical dynamics of financial systems. The ability to identify the factors underlying financial crises and the role of the political corrector is entirely sufficient. The autonomy of critical judgment and the ability to use the economic lexicon are completely sufficient.
d) From 25 to 26: good preparation in relation to learning the main fundamentals of the history of finance and the historical dynamics of financial systems. Good ability to identify the factors underlying financial crises and the role of the political corrector. Good autonomy of critical judgment and ability to use economic vocabulary.
e) From 27 to 29: very good preparation in relation to learning the main fundamentals of the history of finance and the historical dynamics of financial systems. The ability to identify the factors underlying financial crises and the role of the political corrector is very good. The autonomy of critical judgment and the ability to use the economic vocabulary are very good.
f) From 30 to 30 cum laude: excellent preparation in relation to learning the main fundamentals of the history of finance and the historical dynamics of financial systems. Excellent ability to identify the factors underlying financial crises and the role of the political corrector. The autonomy of critical judgment and the ability to use the economic vocabulary are excellent.
