Course description

Modulo 1: Pronunciation and Grammar (2 credits)

The objective of this module is to reinforce students’ grammatical and lexical knowledge of the language through different kinds of exercises that lead to a clear and correct use of English. All main verb tenses will be covered as well as other aspects of grammar such as the use of articles, object pronouns, prepositions, adjective and possessive pronouns etc, besides word order and sentence structure. The module will also focus on students’ pronunciation through specific exercises from single words and simple phrases to more articulate syntactic constructions. To this end a knowledge of phonetic symbols is deemed essential.

Modulo 2: Reading and Comprehension of Texts on Culture and Civilisation. (1 credit)

This module, which is organised around the coursebook, will focus on reading, translation and discussion of texts concerning current affairs and socio-cultural topics with the aim of building the students’ vocabulary and reinforcing their linguistic competence in general.
