The course, respecting the general purpose of the course of study, aims at providing knowledge concerning the organization and the functioning of the economic system and its main sectors. The course aims to provide insight into the health economy theories and tools of political economy. The first part of the course is devoted to the study of market failures. The second part is devoted to the reasons of state intervention and the mechanisms by which we make the various interventions. In the third part, we study inter-industry linkages to measure the impact of pharmaceutical system. Finally, the analysis of regional disparities in health care systems is treated.The main learning outcomes are:
a) understanding the theoretical concepts related to the health economy and of the organization models of the sanitary system;
b) developing the capacity to analyse the performance of the sanitary system; to individuate the economic aspects of a sanitary organization; evaluating and discussing the transformation that are occurring into the sanitary professions; ability to communicate and capacity to use data.
