Objectives
Contents The course of "General Sociology" is aimed at the knowledge and study of the main concepts, theories and methods of sociology and their application in the "Sociology of health and medicine" sector.
Extended Syllabus Intended for students in medical and health professions, the course has the idea that sociology of health, a subdiscipline of general sociology with a strong interdisciplinary impulse, must offer a cognitively relevant perspective in a precise, but not excessively specialized language.
The course will proceed in the direction of a progressive specification of the contents. From the knowledge of the main sociological theories and methods, with particular attention to the epistemological perspectives, it comes to a reflection lowered in the contexts of health and medicine, with an in-depth analysis of some themes related to them.
Recommended Bibliography - Some chapters from the book: G. Giarelli, E. Venneri, Sociology of health and medicine. Manual for the medical and health professions, Franco Angeli, Milan, reprinted several times. The chapters will be indicated at the beginning of the course.
