Methodologies in analysis of the work of art:
The workshop aims to offer students of the three-year degree, barely at the beginning of their university career, the tools necessary for "reading" and "identifying" a work of art produced in the timespan covered by the course in the History of Contemporary Art: from the second half of the 18th century to the middle of the 20th century.
Supports, techniques, subjects represented, relative cultural context will first be investigated. Then most of the workshop will be devoted to refining the techniques for "identification" of the work of art, so as to enable identification of period, location of production and creator.

A bibliography will be indicated during workshop hours.
Educational objectives:
The workshop aims to teach students of Cultural Heritage, hopefully future art historians, how to deal with a difficulty multilingual “text” such as the work of art.
The workshop also aims to make students fluent in specific art-historical-artistic terminology.
Qualification:
To qualify for enrolment in the workshop it is necessary to have passed the exam in History of Contemporary Art.
Teaching method:
Group discussion on works of art, images of which will be projected in class.
Further information:
The number of participants is restricted: a maximum of 20 students will be admitted.
Assessment:
An oral exam, with a mark out of thirty, in which the student will have to demonstrate that an ability to confront a work of art critically and maturely, especially in terms of dating, attribution to a school and possibly identification of the artist.
