Codicology is a discipline that, alongside palaeography, has as its object the study of the manuscript book as a material object in all its aspects, external and internal. This course would like to extend the methods and aims of Codicology also outside the book context, that is to say to all the artefacts intended for the transmission of written texts. We will therefore discuss the materials used and the methods of production not only of books, but also of documents, inscriptions and graffiti, in the belief of the profound unity of written culture and the interdependence and interconnection between the different levels through which it expresses itself.
