The urban planning 2 course is experimental and alternates moments of distance learning (e-learning mode) with face-to-face moments.
The course is divided into several teaching modules: 1) Tools, 2) Lessons, 3) Conferences, 4) Workshop.
Each module has specific training objectives and learning methodologies aimed at making the student acquire: knowledge of the origins of modern urban planning; mastery with the tools of the urban planning discipline; ability to critically and analytically elaborate urban and territorial phenomena.
1. The Tools module provides some basic tools of urban planning practice: cartographic readings; data research, selection of sources, methods of representation; techniques and methods of digital survey and geolocation; techniques and methodologies for the production of multimedia materials; use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The Tools are carried out through webinars and include the exercise of practical activities by the students.
2. The Lessons module consists of a series of lessons on the origins of urban planning and on the urban planning instrumentation in force in Italy. The lessons are included in the online platform and can be consulted in streaming mode. Each lesson consists of two modules of about 20-25 minutes each. At the time set by the calendar, a live session opens the lesson and presents the two pre-recorded modules. After the live session the student follows the first lesson module pre-recorded by the professor. After listening to the first module of the lesson, the student undergoes a self-assessment test that allows him to measure his level of learning in real time, having indications of which parts of the lesson must be restudied. After the self-assessment test, the student will move on to viewing the second pre-recorded form and completing the second self-assessment test. At this point there will be the live session of the closing of the lesson during which students can ask questions to the professor who, based on the results of the two tests, will be able to re-explain the most complex concepts.
3. The Conference module consists of a live conference in remote mode held by an external expert invited to deepen some specific aspects of the course. At the end of the conference ample space is dedicated to the students' questions on the topics covered.
4. The Workshop module consists of a practical exercise carried out in the classroom by students assisted by tutors. The exercise aims to put into practice the notions that are being learned in the course, making students try their hand at developing a designidea, not complex, on a portion of territory assigned to them.
