Extended Syllabus 1. Laboratory of Diabetes mellitus: definition, pathophysiology, clinical and diagnostic aspects. Methods of analysis and laboratory tests for the diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus
2. Acid-base and electrolyte balance: general concepts (acids, bases, pH), pathophysiology of acid-base, acid and respiratory and metabolic alkalosis disorders. Methods of analysis and laboratory tests (Blood gas analysis - EGA)
3. CBC and inflammation: blood collection techniques, types of anticoagulants, cell count, erythrocyte and platelet indices, leukocyte formula. Methods of blood count analysis. Inflammation markers (ESR, PCR, fibrinogen…): assay techniques
4. Anemias and thalassemias: definitions, pathophysiology and classification. Main forms of anemia (iron deficiency, haemorrhagic, haemolytic, in the course of infection ...). Sickle cell anemia. Alpha and beta thalassemias.
5. Coagulation disorders: haemostatic process, fibrinolysis. Platelet function test. Coagulation test.
6. Laboratory medicine in neonatology / pediatrics: neonatal screening test for congenital diseases. Basic principles, sample collection, methods of analysis (outline).
7. Laboratory medicine in the emergency area: laboratory tests in case of intoxication by drugs, drugs and substances of abuse
