The students must have knowledge of physiology, pathology and pharmacology, in order to get a correct approach to the most common clinical problems in newborns.
Objectives
Contents Neonatology, delivery room management and communication. Main perinatal diseases
Extended Syllabus Neonatal resuscitation. Fetal and neonatal transition. The preterm and term newborn.
The healthy newborn.
Neonatal jaundice.
The newborn of a diabetic or hypertensive mother.
The newborn in Intensive Care: prematurity, neonatal respiratory syndrome, perinatal asphyxia, cerebral hemorrage.
The newborn smal for gestational age (SGA). The newborn with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR). The newborn with congenital heart defects. Perinatal teratology. Breast milk and artificial milk.

The exam will evaluate the knowledge and the ability to manage the most frequent neonatal diseases.
Contacts/More Information The students will have the opportunity to visit the Department of Neonatology in Chieti and in Pescara, in order to see how a Neonatal Ward is organized and to observe the most common clinical problems of the newborns.
