Objectives
Contents The student during the laboratory activity foreseen in the 2nd year, consolidates and perfects the skills acquired in the first year, as well as experiments in acquiring the skills to provide nursing care in the adult person of medium and high complexity with both acute and chronic problems .
Elements are provided to learn how to organize, carry out and evaluate care activities with appropriate techniques, in compliance with the fundamental scientific principles of the profession. Students are directed to adapt the services to the assisted person, in relation to the different pathologies, to the different operating sectors and at different ages. Elements are provided for the correct application of diagnostic-therapeutic prescriptions.
Extended Syllabus Preparation and assistance of the patient in endoscopic, radiological and cardiological diagnostic tests;
• Assistance to the patient during: thoracentesis, paracentesis, medullar punctuation, arthrocentesis, centesis pericardium, bone biopsy, liver biopsy;
• Assistance and monitoring of the patient during blood transfusion and blood products;
• Management of parenteral therapy, with reference to dosages and pharmacological calculations, therapy administration: intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, intravenous; carry out intravenous and capillary blood samples and for blood culture;
• Performing simple dressings and collaborating with the care team in implementing complex dressings;
• Assistance to the patient in the pre and post-operative phases and knowledge of the main surgical instruments;
Monitoring of the hydro-electrolyte balance
• Stoma management: intestinal, gastric and urinary;
• Management of central and peripheral venous accesses;
• Management of chemotherapy and infusion pumps;
• Management of the person with nutritional problems: enteral and parenteral nutrition;
• Positioning and management of the nasogastric tube;
• Management of the person with drains;
• Execution of electrocardiogram;
• Management of the person on hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis;
• Detection and monitoring of peripheral oxygen saturation
• Assist the patient before death
• Reassemble the body and learn about the medical-legal procedures.

Teaching Methods The laboratory activities are a form of interactive teaching addressed to a small group of students; this activity is supported by a tutor. Experiential learning takes place in the nursing laboratory through the use of dummies and teaching aids designed for simulation.
