Objectives
Contents The course presents the evolution of sociological theories from the classics to the present day.
Specifically, the course will be divided into three task: in the first part the classical sociological theories, in the second the modern and contemporary theoretical approaches and, finally, in the third part specific issues of transversal to the authors addressed in the first two parts of the course.
Extended Syllabus The course presents the evolution of sociological theories from birth to the present day according to the following order:
The origins: I. The historical-cultural context and the understanding of society; II. the philosophical matrices of the sociology of the origins (evolutionary theories, idealism, materialism); III. the first methodological debate and the search for new foundations.
The classics of sociology: Comte; Marx; Simmel; Weber; Durkheim; Pareto and the elitists.
Sociology from the Second World War to the present day: I. Functionalism. - II. The theory of conflict. - III. Social evolution and modernity: macrosociological perspectives. - IV. Symbolic interactionism. - V. Phenomenology. - VI. The theories of rational choice. - VII. The rediscovery of the body: sociology of the body and sociobiology. - VIII. Perspectives of sociological theory
The course also includes a thematic study chosen by the student on specific interpretations
