The course aims to analyze the characteristics of the most recent and authoritative historical and educational studies and to provide a comprehensive overview of the evolution experienced by the educational models and the national school system from the 19th century to the Contemporary era. Particular attention will be given to several pivotal issues, including the concept of childhood, the evolution of educational theories and models, the gender issue, the problem of illiteracy, the establishment of the school system, the process of “fascistization”, the higher education reform, the advent of democracy, student protests of ’68 and the concept of mass education.
