Single discipline educational activity
Course Sheet Academic Year of enrolment:
Hours of classroom activity:
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of representation methods, drawing tools and techniques. Basic skills in the use of computers and common software packages.
Objectives
Contents The scientific-disciplinary contents of the course concern the representation of the habitat in its multiple scalar (landscape, city and architecture), thematic (semantic) and dimensional (form) declinations.
The representation is studied as a cognitive medium of the real space (material and immaterial) and of the imagined space, in its different phenomenal dimensions; the drawing, therefore, as a "tool" for the analysis and modification of existing values, in a historical-critical context.
The main objective of the course (12 cfu, first year, first semester) is the learning and experimentation of the various theoretical-operational components hidden in the idea of drawing; "from the spoon to the city" (recalling a concept used in the 20th century).
In this context, the course provides theoretical and practical knowledge about drawing, its direct and instrumental methodologies, its procedures and techniques (analog and digital), metric, morphological and thematic restitution.
The didactic program of the course is divided into three main cognitive-elaborative areas:
- Methods and Techniques of Drawing;
- History of Representation;
- Multimedia Representation of Knowledge.
These three thematic areas of drawing integrate each other and form a single teaching (Habitat Drawing) to which corresponds a single final assessment.
Extended Syllabus The scientific-disciplinary contents of the course concern the representation of the habitat in its multiple scalar (landscape, city and architecture), thematic (semantic) and dimensional (form) declinations.
(recalling a concept used in the last century).
In this context, the course provides theoretical and practical knowledge about drawing, its direct and instrumental methodologies, its procedures and techniques (analog and digital), metric, morphological and thematic restitution.
The didactic program of the course is divided into three main cognitive-elaborative areas:
- Methods and Techniques of Drawing;
- History of Representation;
- Multimedia Representation of Knowledge.
These three thematic areas of drawing integrate each other and form a single teaching (Habitat Drawing) to which corresponds a single final assessment.
In particular:
- in the "Methods and Techniques of Drawing" area the main methods (direct and instrumental) to know, measure and design the habitat will be deepened and experimented. In this context, the course provides theoretical and practical knowledge on drawing, on its direct and instrumental methodologies, its procedures and techniques (analog and digital), metric, morphological and thematic restitution. The scientific principles and methods of projective geometry will be verified and related to drawing, that is, the ways "of representing", oriented to the appropriate communication of graphic language. This means experimenting the various potentialities of the methods of representation in the conscious conformation of spatial models, in a historical-critical context;
- in the field of "History of Representation" the above mentioned "methods and techniques of representation" will be contextualized and studied within a historical-evolutionary path, in which the historical data can be critically elaborated. This analysis will be particularly focused on analyzing the relationship between the habitat and the digital techno-culture, in which the role of the medium of representation plays a fundamental role. In this context, the latest techno-cultural developments of drawing in the digital environment will be studied;
- in the theoretical-operational field of "Multimedia Representation of Knowledge" (the core of the course) we will proceed, finally, to the synthesis of all the acquired knowledge, until the elaboration of the theme of the year, focused on the representation of a significant example of habitat observation. The theme of the year will be represented by images in which the methods and techniques of graphic, infographic and multimedia language will be experimented, applied to the representation process carried out.

Methods of Provision
Teaching Methods The course is organized in a didactic methodology articulated in modules of lessons (whose tracks are also published on the course website), seminars and thematic workshops.
Obviously, the study methodology of the course offers the best results if the student is previously aware of the topics covered during the lessons (this is also done through the "previews" available on the dedicated website), and if in the classroom the student is familiar with the topics of the course.
available on the dedicated website), and if the student takes notes in a structured and continuous way.
It is also very important, in order to give gradual learning and make it more effective and less tiring, for the student to reread the notes of the previous lesson before coming to the classroom to attend the next one.
The elaborative-exercise activity is individual, while the projects developed in the workshops can be carried out in small study groups.
Each group elaborates the learning activities through a
methodology widely explained in the classroom and assisted, from time to time, by the professor and tutors.
Normally each day of work is set by an introduction
of the professor who defines the topics and provides references, techniques and methodologies to be used. The work of the groups of students is assisted by the thematic seminars carried out by the tutors and expanded by the information available in the texts made available in the classroom and in the continuous
multimedia supports and web sites. At the end of each day of workshop the students must arrive at a partial synthesis of the work that will then find definition through the thematic deepening to be carried out independently.
The course offers students a space on a dedicated digital platform that contains an articulated set of online information such as the bulletin board, programs, some assessments, drawings, videos, photos, etc.. From the site, moreover, it is possible to read the tracks of the didactic material of the ex cathedra lessons, the bibliography, the exercises and the workshops.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Type of examination: oral.
Modality of verification of learning:
the final evaluation of the teaching of "Habitat Drawing" is composed of the evaluations acquired by the student regarding:
- exercises carried out;
- elaboration of the theme of the year subject of the workshop;
- individual oral test on topics developed during the cycle of lessons.
Evaluation: final grade
Contacts/More Information The teaching of "Habitat Drawing" (in the first year) takes place in the second semester.
A reception for students is scheduled after the lecture.
The course is part of the disciplines inherent to SSD ICAR 17 DRAWING.
Attendance to the didactic activities is strongly recommended and it is in itself a guarantee of admission to the profit exam within the semester.
Each university training credit (CFU) corresponds to 8 hours of classroom or laboratory teaching and 17 hours of individual study.
