Extended Syllabus In the BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING bachelor's degree course (Class L-9), the teaching of SCANNING AND 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGIES module B (3 CFU ICAR / 10) represents an elective course useful for introducing students to some of the recent technologies of industry 4.0 (with a positive development trend in the biomedical sector).
The disciplinary contents are designed to create a training path that starts from 3D modelling exploiting parametric modelling, modern Generative Design and Topology Optimization tools. Subsequently, theoretical and practical concepts regarding the acquisition of geometry with 3D scanning to create a digital model are introduced. The course deals with the techniques and tools for the management and processing of the achieved digital models. Finally, the course proposes the transformation of the digital model into a code that defines the commands to be given to the 3D printers.
The course consists of a theoretical part of lectures, tutorials (in which the teacher shows the procedures "step by step" in specific software) and a group project. In the project part, students are invited to develop an application of the concepts acquired in the biomedical field with exercises directly on the machine.

• Technical and scientific journals;
Other recommended readings for in-depth thematic studies and specific topics will be indicated during the exercise activities. The additional teaching materials will be delivered directly to those enrolled in the course.
Teaching Methods The methods of carrying out the lessons and teaching support activities include:
-Frontal didactic lessons;
-Theoretical / practical exercises and projects in groups and / or individuals;
-Reviews and checks of exercises and projects.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
By means of exercises, the theoretical concepts will be applied to real case studies. The learning progress of the students will be monitored through group and/or individual projects.
The final exam will consist of an individual test to assess the final knowledge and disciplinary skills of the students. In addition, the exercises and the projects carried out will be discussed and presented by the students. Consequently, the ability of every student in applying the theoretical and practical concepts will be assessed.
The preparation of the students will be assessed in a range from 0 to 30.
Contacts/More Information - Semester in which the course is delivered: Second.
- Registration for the course is mandatory.
- Attendance: attendance is recommended in particular for participation in group and / or individual exercises and projects.
- Exam dates according to the general planning of the Master's Degree Course L460 - BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING.
