Objectives

The training objectives and expected learning outcomes of the course are as follows:
- identify the origins and developments of the social service;
- to know how to place the social service in the field of social policy;
- to know the developments of the welfare system in relation to the most recent legislative changes;
- to know the developments of the social worker's profession;
- to know the historical-philosophical assumptions of the discipline;
- to know the approaches and working models of social work and to know how to place them within professional life;
- to acquire the concepts, the theoretical and methodological perspectives of social services;
- to know how to identify the objectives, functions and activities of the social service in relation to the different areas of application;
- to know the system of social and health services in Italy and the related areas of intervention.

Contents

The teaching is focused on the principles and structures of social services in Italy. The course provides students with knowledge on the origins and developments of welfare systems, placing the social services in the context of social policy interventions.
During the course the processes of development of the social worker's profession are reviewed, knowledge is provided on the principles and foundations of the profession, and the historical-philosophical assumptions of the discipline are defined.
The analysis continues by focusing on theoretical approaches, operational models, objectives, functions and social service activities. The methodological perspectives of social work are also analyzed.

3. The reforms of the seventies, eighties and nineties of the twentieth century.
4. Law 328/2000 and the reform of Title V of the Constitution.
5. The development of the social worker's profession in Italy.
6. The objectives, functions and activities of the social services.
7. The main theoretical approaches and models of social services.
8. The methodological procedure of the social service.
9. Principles, foundations and historical-philosophical principles of social work.
10. The aid report 11. The system of social and health services in Italy.
12. The areas of social intervention.
