Objectives
Contents It proposes an interpretation of European and national history in the modern age by relating political ideas, institutions, the economy to the needs of society, outlining the political models developed in the period between Humanism and the Enlightenment in their functional relationship with social interests and aspirations.
As regards the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, starting from the emblematic experience of some significant authors, an analysis of the most important political and social questions will be developed, concerning also the formation and organization of the national states and the relative relations, from the global conflicts with the most recent irenistic and community perspectives
Extended Syllabus The course includes a general part in which political and social theories will be analyzed through the study of the major political thinkers and the main currents of thought of the modern age.
The special in-depth section includes an analysis of the complex relationship between literature and politics that characterized the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, through the monographic analysis of authors of particular relevance.
We will also focus on the evolution of the social state between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as a specific study, to understand how welfare is realized in modern and contemporary political thought, analyzing the question of fundamental rights in the relationship between social justice and welfare institutions .

Teaching Methods The lectures will be of the frontal type in Italian, although from time to time they will be integrated with readings of texts, visions of audiovisual materials and their discussion, seminars with teachers external to the course on particular topics. Attending students are entitled to develop and develop work and group presentations, with the aid of visual and multimedia supports, on specific topics agreed with the teacher.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
Oral exam, with possible intermediate examinations also in writing during the course of the lesson.
