Objectives
Contents The particular attention that the course wants to develop is aimed at the study of the physical elements that make up the system
building, therefore to a design not only informed and
documented on the tools that the architect must know to operate,
but also able to extend its intervention to the control and to the
the possible transformation of these tools.
The meaning of the term "tools" is extended both to the common notion (building materials, construction elements, structures, climate, equipment, etc.), and to conceptual procedures (methodologies, programs, criteria for verifying the design process).
The student will have to confront with this tools for design and control the construction process (awareness of complexity, analysis of resources and contextual constraints, verification of design solutions, quality control with reference to technical-performance standards) so that the experience can contribute to the birth and development of an adequate culture of technological design.
Extended Syllabus The course aims to provide the skills for know:
* the technical characteristics of building materials,construction
elements and systems and their evolution
* the rules of art and the rules for a correct practice of building,
* the relationships of consistency and clarity between use of
materials and their building process, between the design of the individual
pieces and their performance
* the role played by materials, elements and construction
processes in the design, construction, maintenance and management of
a building
* the critical tools suitable for setting up and running a design program in
terms of feasibility,
* the methodological tools for a correct construction of the sequence of
requirements that specify the program itself in the presence of certain
constraints,
* the operational tools for the definition of design solutions congruent to
the program and aimed at enhancing the solicitations coming from the
technology.
At the end of the course the student must be able to:
* read, break down and classify a building system, according to the UNI
legislation;
* distinguish the principles and the rules that relate the constructive
elements to the building system, with reference to their performances;
* to distinguish the characteristics of the building materials, with
reference to the processing and transformation processes in construction
elements;
* identify the typological and morphological connotations of the
construction elements according to the specific characteristics of the
materials that can be used and the relative manufactoring processes;
* know the cultural motivations and application areas of the discipline;
* know the operational practices that define the "rule of art".

Teaching Methods The course is organized so as to create a continuous exchange of theoretical and practical aspects related to the discipline.
To this end, there will be seminars and ex-cathedra lessons that will find a practical application in the design experimentation developed within the Integrated Course.
Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
The final exam will be based on the verification of the learning of the
typical methodologies of Architecture Technology. The verification will be based on the presentation of the design elaborations accompanied by an oral exam.
Contacts/More Information The integrated course requires compulsory participation, with a minimum attendance of each student at 70% of the lessons and exercises.
Exercise activities can be developed in groups. Each group can have a maximum of three members.
It is advisable to formalize registration for the course within the first 2 weeks of the lesson.
