Objectives
Contents Linguistic contact in the formation of the Brazilian Portuguese (PB) .The concept of grammatization.- Different approaches on the formation of the PB.- PB as the national language.- PB as transnational language.- Linguistic variation of the PB.- Specificity of the PB (Marcos Bagno) .- The "Gramatiquinha" by Oswald de Andrade.
Extended Syllabus The course aims to answer the following questions on the basis of the texts indicated in the bibliography: What does linguistic politics mean in general and in the lusophone world? How can the choice of the official language be combined with the identification of the linguistic standard in the lusophone world? What are the most important research projects that attempt to describe the Portuguese language? How is the teaching of the mother tongue and the language actually spoken in Brazil placed? What are the possible grammar definitions in the texts studied in the course? Does the linguistic landscape of Brazil present a linguistic homogeneity? how can we define it according to its characteristics? The teaching of Portuguese as a mother tongue and as a foreign language has developed since when and how it was done and how is the management of teacher training? How do linguistic research and language policy in Brazil and Portugal?

Evaluation methods Verification of learning:
in itinere tests, final written exam preparatory to the oral examination and final oral exam. The written exam covers one of the course topics. The student is invited to speak in writing on one of the main topics of the course, using the theoretical references indicated, read and discussed during the course. The oral exam is the discussion of a written paper on a course topic agreed with the teacher beforehand and in times and ways negotiated with the student. In addition to this, the student must demonstrate a knowledge of the various topics covered during the course through a brief oral interview.
